The perfect crystals to help with sleep - Althaea Soul

You would have heard of using essential oils for sleep, meditation and even hypnosis. But what about crystals for sleep? The ancient belief that certain crystals, stones, and gems can benefit your health and well-being dates back to the 4th millennium BC. It’s also been used in traditional Chinese medicine for over 5,000 years.

We've compiled a list of our favourite crystals so you can go on your way to a restful nights sleep. 

Howlite
Howlite crystals are known for having a soothing energy that helps alleviate stress and aid insomnia. For anyone having difficulties sleeping, all you need do is simply place one under your pillow to tap into the relaxing energy it provides.

Amethyst
This crystal is one of the most common gems people use in their bedrooms. It is highly regarded for its tendency to calm down your nervous system and boost relaxation. These stones can prevent negative energy and eases anxiety and stress. However, light sleepers should be careful because amethyst might not be a suitable choice. If you notice that your stone is not helping you, you can place it farther from your bed or go for a smaller stone. Sleeping with it brings healing energy to your dreams, promotes deep sleep, and attunes your brain waves to the frequency of calm.

Moonstone
Moonstone is thought to reduce emotional stress, which makes it easier for our minds to switch off at night. This is a great stone to keep nearby if you’ve had a particularly stressful day, or if you’re going through a rough patch in your life. Moonstone offers deep tranquility and can help to calm racing thoughts, helping you drift into a peaceful state of mind and promoting a restful sleep.

Labradorite
Labradorite expands your mind and connects you to your dream state. When you dream, you can tap into your subconscious mind and uncover answers and experience realizations that can help resolve unanswered questions in your daily life.

Lepidolite 
It’s one of the best stones to promote peaceful sleep due to its natural source of lithium mineral – a remedy often used for anxiety, mood swings and depression. Lepidolite works quickly to clear mental clutter, drowsy the mind and shift the body into relaxation mode so you can fall asleep more easily. If obsessive worries, anxious thoughts or heavy emotions are keeping you awake at night try a visualisation meditation with lepidolite for 10 minutes before you sleep.

Black Tourmaline
Black Tourmaline is a protective crystal that is said to help protect against negative energy. It is believed to promote relaxation and restful sleep by creating a peaceful and calming environment. Black Tourmaline is also said to be helpful for those who struggle with insomnia or other sleep disorders.

How to use these crystals for sleep

There are many different ways to use crystals for sleep and you should choose the methods that resonate with you. Here are our favorite ways.

Place your crystals on your bedside table

Probably the easiest way to use these crystals for sleep is to place them on your nightstand. You can put them in a little bowl or just on the table as is.  

Place a crystal under your pillow

By placing one of these crystals for sleep under your pillow, you're getting as close as you can to the stones frequency. Amethyst is my favorite crystal to place under my pillow because it promotes healthy sleep on many levels.

Place crystals under your bed

Another way to place your crystals for sleep is under your bed. You can use a small bowl or tray to placed them in. Just make sure they are in a safe spot from children or pets!

Meditate with your crystals before going to bed

Crystals for sleep are also helpful outside of the bedroom. For example, you might choose to meditate while holding one or more of these crystals for sleep before you head off to bed. It will relax you and prepare your mind and body for a restful night of sleep.

Carry these crystals with you throughout the day

Believe it or not, carrying these crystals with you during the day can help you get a better night sleep. This is because it helps to balance the mind, body, and spirit, keeping you in a calmer state of mind and helping your body to settle and relax a little easier at night.

Having a bedtime routine is an important part of getting a good nights sleep, so be sure to interact with your crystals as part of your winding-down process.

Once you've put away your phone, drawn the curtains, and turned off the light, take your crystal and hold it in your hands or against your body. You can meditate while holding it or just sit quietly for a moment, focusing on your breathing, before putting it back and getting under the covers.
